"Simone sent me a deeply loving email, from the seat beside me. Flying again; at least monthly. Subject line: 'Just read.'" Most of us spend our whole lives searching for "the one." Tom Ahern shares the raw, real, emotional tale of living, adoring, and losing his world's reigning inspiration...

Description

"Simone sent me an email, from the seat beside me. On the road again, flying. We were on airplanes, at least monthly, to work or relax in France or Tucson or Michigan (our faves). Her subject line: 'Just read.'"

Most of us spend our whole lives searching for the one. Some of us are lucky enough to find them, even for a moment ... or 37 years. And some—like Simone and Tom—were lucky enough to find love, purchase a second home in France, create a successful shared business that took them around the world, and build a rich, co-dependent ("...neurotically yours...") life together for nearly four decades. But what happens after the love story?

Told at a brisk clip through a series of notes and emails, Tom shares his raw, desperately funny, and heartfelt story on what it’s like living, loving, and losing The One, nicknamed Sim One by the family, after a 16-month battle to survive. Sim One is a love letter meets memoir that asks what does it mean to love—and keep loving—when faced with the possibility of losing it all at any moment?

Reader Testimonials / Reviews :

Rachel M. ~ 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon ~ It’s rare to pick up a book about grief and not be able to put it down.

Format: Paperback

His grief is monumental but his love for Sim One is even bigger and it’s clear that love gave birth to this book.

Tom teaches us to embrace the messiness of life and love fiercely. Anyone who has experienced grief will find deep solace and strength in each page.

His raw and heartfelt journey through love and loss of his one and only reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, "For he was still too young to know that the heart's memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good, and that thanks to this artifice we manage to endure the burden of the past."

Tom’s masterpiece reminds us that to love is to be brave, to open ourselves to heartbreak as much as joy, and to embrace life with arms outstretched in all its messiness.
