Description
In Harry Heron: Savage Fugitive, Book Three of the Harry Heron Series, Harry and Ferghal lead a band of fugitives of the Fleet in a battle against the Consortium on Planet Lycania inhabited by the very canine-like Canids. There are three things you need to know about Harry Heron and Ferghal O'Connor: *Born in the late 1700s, they catapulted through time and space from the gun deck of the HMS Spartan during a sea fight with the French in 1804 to the starship NECS Vanguard in 2204. *Best friends since their boyhood in Ireland, they're smart, savvy, and fearless, as loyal to each other as they are to the British Royal Navy and the North European Confederation Fleet. *A juggernaut of wits, wit, and boundless energy, they show the twenty-third century how it's done when it comes to outwitting the Consortium, navigating any type of ship, and harnessing artificial intelligence to their keen advantage.

SecretShopper5.0 out of 5 stars An original and dramatic space adventure26 September 2018Format: PaperbackI haven't read the earlier books in the series, but will definitely go back to catch up, based on this book. I really enjoyed it even without knowing the back story.
Harry Heron was a Royal Navy officer in the early 1800's, but in the first book in the series, he and 2shipmates (Ferghal and Danny) are thrown 400 years into the future and join "the Fleet" - the good guys. I can't describe why his and Ferghal's combination of old-fashioned skills and modern tech is entertaining without spoilers.
In this book, most of Harry's shipmates are detained as prisoners of war on a strange planet, by Consortium forces(the bad guys). Fortunately a handful of the crew evade capture and set about trying to free their colleagues. Along the way, they learn some surprising things about the natives and their planet. Meanwhile the Fleet is searching for Harry's crew and trying to solve the mystery of what the Consortium is doing on Lycania.
The book is a real page-turner with fast-paced action and interesting characters. The tactics and how they played out in battles were fascinating, both in space and on the ground. The leaders were much more believable than anyone you find in Star Trek. Kirk would have a tough time if he was pitted against the wily Admirals of the Fleet. I know, sacrilege! I look forward to exploring the Harry Heron universe in more detail.
