From his childhood in Ireland, Harry Heron and Ferghal O'Connor make their way to London to follow Harry's desire to join the Royal Navy. Transferred from HMS Bellarophon to HMS Spartan in 1801 they set out on a voyage that, unbeknownst to them, will delay their return home for far, far longer than they can imagine.

Description

The prequel to the Harry Heron SciFi series.

In the vein of Horatio Hornblower, Patrick Cox weaves an exciting, authentic tale of Henry (Harry) Nelson-Heron, a young midshipman in the British Navy in the early 1800s. Born in 1789 during the Irish Rebellion, Harry must overcome the prejudice against the Irish, the ancient enmity between his family and another, and the usual hazards of an active and inquisitive youth in order to realise his dream of becoming an officer in Britain’s Royal Navy. When he and his faithful friend and companion Ferghal make the treacherous journey to London to find a ship, fate smiles on them for now — but has other intentions for their future. A future beyond their imaginations.

If you are a fan of sea stories from the Age of Sail, you will thoroughly enjoy "Midshipman's Journey".

Characters are rich and alive, the descriptions are vivid and authentic for the period, and the adventures and battles are full of action and colour.

This is a stand out novel of the genre, and right up there with all the much loved authors of 18th century Royal Navy action.

Highly recommended.
